De-clutter your environment & your mind!

Clutter in your life drains your personal energy. It hinders you in having the life you REALLY want. Many of us find it hard to let go of 'stuff' - but trust me, once you start & see how that energy starts flowing again...you'll get into the flow & the momentum will carry you along!

Just start by asking yourself "Is it useful, do I love it, does it make my heart sing?". If its a "no", then ditch or donate!

Heres a few tips to get you up & running:

DO IT NOW!
Start right away - don’t wait until you’re in the mood - you’ll always find something ‘better’ to do! Just do 10 or 15 minutes at a time & start with something easy. Set a timer….if you’re in the flow - carry on, if not start again tomorrow!

START ANYWHERE!
If you don’t know where to start, start anywhere! Don’t think too much - you’ll find many excuses to do something else. Just do it!

MAKE IT FUN!
Pop some up-tempo music on, lighten the atmosphere, make de-cluttering fun! Give yourself a realistic target - maybe 5 things a day - 5 files, 5 drawers, 5 of whatever appeals to YOU! Make a simple wall chart & tick off your 5 each day. When you’ve reached your goal - give yourself a reward & celebrate your success!

VISUALISE A CLEAR SPACE
Imagine how wonderful it will feel when everything’s calm & clear. What will your home look like, how do you visualise it? When you enter your home how relaxing will it be? By developing a picture of your ideal environment, you’ll be inspired into action!

ENLIST A FIRM FRIEND!
De-cluttering your wardrobe? Get a friend to help - an honest de-cluttering buddy who knows you well & knows when to be firm with you. Make 3 piles of clothes: keep, ditch or pop in a big bin liner & into the boot of your car, ready for the charity shop.

IF IN DOUBT, BOX IT UP!
If you have stuff that is so borderline, you really can’t get rid of right away, then box it up & label it with contents & a date 6 months from now. Store it away & if you haven’t needed it when the date arrives - donate or ditch!

GIVE EVERYTHING A HOME
Its like your Granny always told you - allocate a place for everything & you’ll always be able to find it. So free up time for what you REALLY want to be doing, dissecting your house for lost keys is probably not it!

NOW ... DE-CLUTTER YOUR MIND!
In “The Artists Way”, Julia Cameron suggests using the ‘Morning Pages’ to rid yourself of all the ‘stuff’ that’s blocking your energy & creativity. Julia recommends hand writing 3 sheets of your thoughts, whatever they may be, anything at all - from what’s irritating you to what you‘ll have for lunch! Do this first thing in the morning, without editing, to clear your mind, creating space for energy & inspiration to flow in. Give this a try for 4 weeks & notice how it frees up your mind!
